At African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) we believe #African countries must think locally but act regionally. The world needs climate smart growth and Africa can lead this charge & become one of the greatest forces for good. We can only do this if we are united. The#Africa of the many visions that rarely materialize or that materialize when it is too late: Among the main decisions arisen during the 37th AU summit held from 15th January to 18th February 2024 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, there is the plan to create anAlliance for African Multilateral Financial Institutions(AAMFI), also called "Africa Club". AAMFIs are a group of African-owned and African-controlled financial institutions that were created to support investments and financing needs of African States. The idea is to create a structure that can coordinate the actions of all these institutions so that they can work in a concerted manner, by directing African nationsto invest up to thirty percent (30%) of their foreign sovereign reserves in them.Read more here: https://lnkd.in/d9eWJaP7

Congratulations to HE Wamkele Mene, The Secretary General of TheAfrican Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat on your reappointment! The unanimous vote for your reappointment is a vote of confidence, a testament to your leadership of this great project in the last few years. I look forward to continuing working with you in delivering on the Pan-African economic aspirations and creating the "Africa We Want".May your second term bring us closer to responding to HE Julius Nyerere's (1966) "THE DILEMMA OF THE PAN-AFRICANIST".".....But it is not enough for African states to co-operate in dealing with particular problems. We must deliberately move to unity. To the fullest extent possible we must co-operate in our economic development, our trade, and our economic institutions. We must do this, despite our separate sovereignties, although we have to recognize that there is a limit to the possibilities of economic integration without political union. When that point comes, then we shall either have to stand still—and thus damage our real hopes for Africa—or we shall have to take the plunge into a merger of our international sovereignties." A pleasure to speak at the EDS19 World Bank-IMF constituency meeting in Moldova and catch up with many counterparts from Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, and Ukraine. The countries have achieved remarkable success and resilience in the face of numerous shocks. Next steps: policies to boost inflows of capital, knowledge, and managerial expertise to facilitate growing to high income.

His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Al-Ghazouani, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and the current President of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union. In his acceptance remarks, he indicated the following:1. A decade has transpired since the inception of our initial ten-year plan within the framework of the 2063 Agenda's implementation, serving as the foundation for the formulation of medium-term development plans for Member States, regional economic communities, and the organs of the African Union.2. Ten years ago, our regional and international landscape faced unfavorable conditions, marked by successive and often simultaneous health and environmental crises. Coupled with economic and security challenges, these crises compounded the already significant hurdles confronting our continent, impeding and slowing the anticipated progress in realizing the 2063 Agenda.4. Despite these challenges, notable advancements have been achieved in various realms. Significant strides in the African Continental Free Trade Area have been made, with the successful completion of the first phase. The protocols on trade in goods, trade in services, and dispute settlement have entered into force, and negotiations on the second phase, encompassing investment, intellectual property rights, and competition policy, are progressing at a commendable pace.5. Concurrently, efforts are underway to launch the Continental Free Trade Area e-tariff book, its rules of origin guide, and its targeted trade initiative. Furthermore, our continent's global presence has been fortified, notably through its permanent membership in the G20.#AUSummit24 #Agenda2063 #TheAfricaWeWant #AfCFTAImplementation
