Go away.

by Anonymousreply 1October 6, 2024 10:46 PM

Congratulations. Will he go away now?

by Anonymousreply 2October 6, 2024 10:48 PM

What kind of bullshit is this?

Cut to Ratboy on suicide watch.

by Anonymousreply 5October 6, 2024 10:52 PM

The Academy is dead. What a bullshit honorary award for a barely known actor.

by Anonymousreply 6October 6, 2024 10:55 PM

Right down there with Angela Bassett's "Oscar".

by Anonymousreply 7October 6, 2024 10:56 PM

Fake news here’s the real honorees this year. No one from the acting branch but Quincy Jones is one of the honorees.

What happened Glenn turned them down again?

by Anonymousreply 9October 6, 2024 11:03 PM

R8 that list was announced in June. His award was announced today.

by Anonymousreply 10October 6, 2024 11:04 PM

They have to contextualize the award.

by Anonymousreply 11October 6, 2024 11:08 PM

Aside from Quincy Jones and the James Bond guys, the other two have no business receiving honorary oscars.

Bette Midler, Faye Dunaway, Sigourney Weaver and Glenn Close are LONG overdue.

And what an insult to deny them.

by Anonymousreply 12October 6, 2024 11:09 PM

There’s no such thing as a vantage award.

by Anonymousreply 13October 6, 2024 11:09 PM

[quote]He will be presented with The Vantage Award, which honors an emerging artist who is helping to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema.

Faye already did that with Bonnie and Clyde, which singlehandedly brought movies into modern day in a way that none has since. And she worked with Brando, the man who single handedly changed the game of acting

You can keep this bullshit award for this little cum stain and give an honorary oscar to Faye. That's Vantage for you!

by Anonymousreply 14October 6, 2024 11:12 PM

Casting director Juliet Taylor absolutely deserves to be honored. Faye Dunaway won a competitive Oscar in 1977 for Network.

by Anonymousreply 15October 6, 2024 11:12 PM

How many cocks did he suck?

I’ve lost the going rate.

by Anonymousreply 16October 6, 2024 11:13 PM

He's conveniently going to receive this bullshit award less than a month before that mess of a Gladiator sequel is released. The whole thing was probably paid for by Paramount Pictures.

by Anonymousreply 17October 6, 2024 11:15 PM

Why?

by Anonymousreply 18October 6, 2024 11:16 PM

How wonderful for our dear Paul!

by Anonymousreply 19October 6, 2024 11:17 PM

He’s not getting an honorary Oscar there’s nothing on google news or on the academy’s social media pages. The OP’s source is an obscure Twitter page with 2200 followers

An Oscar for Bette Midler? Fuck that.

by Anonymousreply 22October 6, 2024 11:22 PM

It's a museum award not an "Academy Award". The kind of award they give to get people in seats for a gala fundraiser.

by Anonymousreply 23October 6, 2024 11:23 PM

R8 it’s a different event than that one.

His team and/or Paramount is scared shitless about Gladiator II possibly flopping.

by Anonymousreply 25October 6, 2024 11:25 PM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 26October 6, 2024 11:31 PM

Where?

by Anonymousreply 27October 6, 2024 11:32 PM

What?

by Anonymousreply 28October 6, 2024 11:32 PM

Size meat?

by Anonymousreply 29October 6, 2024 11:32 PM

Hollywood is utterly absurd now.

by Anonymousreply 30October 6, 2024 11:40 PM

R30 Just now?

by Anonymousreply 31October 7, 2024 12:03 AM

Huh?

by Anonymousreply 32October 7, 2024 12:09 AM

The Academy Museum isn't really the same as the Academy itself, and the statue awarded by the museum isn't an Oscar®.

You can see what the Vantage Award looks like in this article from 2022. Past Vantage Award winner, Sir Steve McQueen, is holding his. Julia Roberts has the Museum's Icon Award. They look similar .. kind of like a black dildo shaped like a mini-oscar.

“The Vantage Award is really a stealth honour for the hardest working publicist who can convince the Academy that their client with an upcoming major film release more or less fits the deliberately vague criteria of ‘contextualising’ current cinema - smirk - and challenges dominant narratives around cinema by making big-time crap like Gladiator 2 and in effect supporting long dominant narratives and basic numerics in cinema. (It was in Paul’s contract that we would campaign for this wildcard Oscar on his behalf. Y’know, in exchange for his big cinematic sellout.)”

by Anonymousreply 34October 7, 2024 12:16 AM

When the fuck did Steve McQueen get knighted? (And why?)

by Anonymousreply 35October 7, 2024 12:37 AM

Quelle horreur! Does not the debasement of mon grande beauté not contectualize and challenge dominant narritives around cinema?

R35 Princess Anne filling in for QE2 was really let down when British director Steve McQueen showed up for that investiture service. She'd been making plans to pinch Bullitt's ass.

by Anonymousreply 37October 7, 2024 1:36 AM

Which begs the question why?

by Anonymousreply 38October 7, 2024 2:00 AM

His publicist is a genius. They are even flogging his talentless sister as a singer in the U.K. market. I don’t see it and perhaps the insane publicity campaign to make him happen is the reason. He’s fine, he’s not ugly but when they push someone this hard I expect to be blown away. Otherwise I wonder who they blew away and what scandal will drop in 2040.

by Anonymousreply 39October 7, 2024 2:00 AM

Isn't he kind of young for this? It's like they're saying he'll never get a real Oscar so here, have a pat on the head.

by Anonymousreply 40October 7, 2024 2:24 AM

It’s because they think he WILL win one day and will be one of the big pioneers for young Hollywood moving forward.

by Anonymousreply 41October 7, 2024 3:47 AM

I have no clue who this creature is but he's not attractive to me.

by Anonymousreply 42October 7, 2024 9:52 AM

id say Paul does not want this. If it is a real award, who received it previously? I shall go google.

by Anonymousreply 43October 7, 2024 10:05 AM

movies do not matter.

by Anonymousreply 44October 7, 2024 10:16 AM

Looks like he should be emptying my bins

by Anonymousreply 45October 7, 2024 10:46 AM

Who is helping to do what now OP?

by Anonymousreply 46October 7, 2024 12:07 PM

[quote]It’s because they think he WILL win one day and will be one of the big pioneers for young Hollywood moving forward.

It makes me think of this, which everyone laughs at now.

Is Mescal a lock now for a Best Actor nomination? Goldderby has Denzel getting in for supporting as well as the film getting in for picture.

by Anonymousreply 49October 7, 2024 8:34 PM

[quote]Goldderby has Denzel getting in for supporting as well as the film getting in for picture.

I bet they'll give it to him just so he can be the first POC to win 3 acting Oscars.

Broadway did that with Audra McDonald, who won a record 6 Tonys in 20 years (1994-2014; ages 24-44) and most of them were undeserving to tell the truth.

For perspective, Angela Lansbury won her 5 Tonys over the course of 43 years (1966-2009; ages 41-84).

by Anonymousreply 50October 7, 2024 9:02 PM

Mescal is not a lock for Best Actor yet. The only lock I think is Colman Domingo for SING SING. The category is very fluid right now.
