NOVEMBER 17, 1990 The Atlanta Mournal AND CONSTITUTION C-17 OBITUARIES More obituaries, Page C16 Mr. Alec B. Simson Retired choral director Mr. Alec B. Simson of Atlanta, a retired choral director and teacher, died of kidney failure Thursday at Piedmont Hospital.

He was 90. funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. today at Patterson's Spring Hill Funeral Home with burial at Crest Lawn Memorial Park. Mr. Simson, a native of London, England, graduated from St.

Mary-le-Bone School of Music in London. During the 1930s, he directed the federal government's Works Project Administration music project in Massachusetts. He also conducted the Boston Commonwealth Symphony and 200-voice chorus that featured soloist Eleanor Steber, who was to become a Metropolitan Opera star. In 1940, 1 he came to Atlanta and organized a choral group, The Cathedral Singers, which performed a major oratorio weekly at the High Museum that was broadcast on radio station WSB. He taught many singers and choir directors in Atlanta and was former choir director at Northside United Methodist Church.

Surviving is his wife, Mignon Pollitt Simson. Mr. William J. Carder Sr. Retired businessman DOUGLASVILLE, Ga.

Mr. William J. Carder Sr. of Douglasville, retired co-owner of Colonial Casket died of a heart attack Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was 68. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Roy Davis Funeral Home with burial at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. He was a native of Cobb County and an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Eison Carder; a son, W.

Joe Carder Jr. of Douglasville; a daughter, Diane C. Shaw of Douglasville; two brothers, Raymond Carder of Lithonia and Albert Carder of Atlanta; and three grandchildren. Mr. Ralph P.

Roberts Retired lawyer Mr. Ralph P. Roberts of Atlanta, a retired lawyer for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, died Wednesday at Piedmont Hospital. He was 75.

He had been ill with pneumonia and cancer. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Patterson's Spring Hill Funeral Home with burial at Crest Lawn Memorial Park. Mr. Roberts, a native of Clarksville, graduated from the John Marshall Law School.

He served with the Army in North Africa and Italy during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Winfred Hitchco*ck Roberts; a son, Thomas D. Roberts of Atlanta; a daughter, Teresa R. Gomez of Katonah, N.Y.; a brother, Haughey Roberts of Clarksville; four sisters, Christine Moulder and Dorothy Priceof Clarksville, Cora Webb of Atlanta and Betty Altman of Norcross; and two grandchildren. Evelyn S. Sexton Retired salesperson Mrs. Evelyn S. Sexton of Morrow, a retired salesperson for Rich's downtown department store, died Wednesday at Clayton General Hospital. She was 89.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Lithia Heights Baptist Church with burial in Westview Cemetery. Mrs. Sexton, a native of Carroll County, was the widow of Dallas Sexton Sr. and lived many years in Lithia Springs.

She worked more than 25 years for Rich's. Surviving are a son, Charles Westmoreland of Fremont, a daughter, Lovella Woodward of Sorrento, two stepsons, Dallas Sexton Jr. of Morrow and James Sexton of Riverdale; a stepdaughter, Doris Jones of Orange Park, a brother, Loy Smith of Lithonia; and three sisters, Louise Kilpatrick of Lithia 'Springs, Marian Mitchum of and Elsie Stallings of Virginia Beach, Va. Dr. Alley was a physician and educator. He was born March 13, 1929 in Follansbee, W. the son of John Joseph and Mary Edith (Allison). On November 15, 1958, he was married to Jean Marie Kinney.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, attended Roberts Wesleyan College, graduated Cum Laude, University of Buffalo, 1959 graduate of Syracuse University, received an M.S. Degree in Public Health from Harvard Univeristy in 1962, received an honorary Doctor of Science from Marquette Univeristy in 1969. He was a missionary for the methodist church in Bolovia 'from 1964 until 1972. Survivors are his wife, sons, Mr. Curtis B.
